Artist Statement: Environmental Messaging _Media Activism + Interventions

by [dNASAb]

In an era of ecological collapse and media saturation, my practice as [dNASAb] operates at the intersection of environmental art, media activism, and technological intervention. This evolving body of work, housed under the Environmental Messaging Film Series, deploys disruptive media to challenge dominant narratives of sustainability, reframe ecological urgency, and cultivate critical resistance through art.

This series encompasses two Ongoing bodies of Video Art projects:

1. “Hands Off Our Future: Stop the Plastic Apocalypse”
Rooted in direct action, this project documents ecological interventions along the mangroves and shorelines of Biscayne Bay. Plastic bags, marine debris, and synthetic remnants entangled in fragile ecosystems are carefully removed—an act of care transformed into a ritual of resistance. These moments are captured, processed, and amplified using AI-driven tools and augmented reality, creating layered visual narratives that blur the boundary between environmental testimony and digital transformation. This work is not aestheticized tragedy—it is signal and strike. Art as augmented resistance. Creation as confrontation.

2. Media Hacktivism and Greenwashing Exposure
In contrast, this thread of the series operates within digital space—hacking the carefully constructed media facades of corporations like the American Plastic Makers, American Beverage Corporation, and Google. These AI-assisted videos use ad-busting strategies to deconstruct the deceptive storytelling of corporate greenwashing. This is post-human cinema as digital protest—cinematic counter-propaganda designed to reveal the environmental damage masked behind polished campaigns and PR optics.

Together, these bodies of work insist that art can be both a mirror and a weapon—holding power accountable while making the invisible visible. Whether excavated from shorelines or generated through networks of AI, each piece asks the viewer to engage more critically, act more urgently, and imagine more radically.

Intervention: Disruptive Media for Environmental Impact“Hands Off Our Future_Stop the Plastic Invasion”

The genesis of this project is a direct intervention in the mangroves and shorelines of Biscayne Bay—removing plastic bags and debris entangled in fragile ecosystems. This ongoing act of care is documented and augmented through AI-driven tools, utilizing disruptive media techniques to heighten the raw, unsettling reality of environmental harm. The work exists at the intersection of environmental art, media activism, and digital protest—serving as both ritual and signal. A call for awareness and action—rooted in love and creative urgency.

Flip the Script on Plastics Pollution_Exposing Greenwashing “Making Sustainable Change”” 2024

Exposing Greenwashing by American Plastic Makers! [dNASAb]’s latest video remix that ad-busts a misleading commercial from the American Plastic Makers. These plastic making companies use greenwashing to appear eco-friendly, but their practices tell a different story.

Let’s break it down:

* Misleading Claims: Highlighting minor eco-friendly initiatives while their overall practices remain harmful. They might promote recyclable materials, but the actual recycling rates for their products are shockingly low.

*Selective Disclosure: Touting reductions in harmful chemicals while ignoring the massive plastic waste they generate.

* False Labels and Certifications: Using vague or self-created “green” labels that give the illusion of sustainability without real action.

* Advertising Campaigns: Launching extensive campaigns to promote minor green initiatives, overshadowing their ongoing environmental damage.

*Green Products: Introducing “eco-friendly” products while still profiting from conventional, harmful products. It’s a way to appeal to conscious consumers without making real changes.

* Downplaying Impact: Focusing on small improvements or comparing themselves favorably against worse offenders to downplay their environmental impact.

These greenwashing techniques create a facade of environmental responsibility, misleading consumers and delaying genuine sustainable practices.

* Dive into the deception and see how these tactics undermine real efforts to tackle plastic pollution. Together, we can demand true sustainability!
