Artist Statement:
Collaboration between [dNASAb] and De La Haba

In the project AI: The Hybrid Future, [dNASAb] and De La Haba collaborate to penetrate the invisible and bracket the impossible, weaving their distinct practices into a singular, thought-provoking work. This AI-assisted film is a fusion of [dNASAb]’s blockchain visualization studies and De La Haba’s physical painting series, “light chains.” The convergence of advanced technology and contemporary aesthetics forms a dynamic dialogue between matter and machine, art and technology.

Through AI, [dNASAb] reformats and evolves De La Haba’s luminous paintings, generating new iterations that blend seamlessly with animated blockchain visualizations. Frame interpolation techniques and multi-layered film construction transform the static images into living, breathing works of art in motion. The result is an “animated painting,” where the original artwork is augmented with new frames and variations, creating a hybrid cinematic experience.

In the context of Umberto Eco’s approach to contemporary aesthetics, this work engages with the notion that matter itself is a discovery shaped by the subconscious depths of the artist, even in the face of advanced computer technologies like AI. The beauty, truth, and invention of this work lie not only in its form but also in its relationship with the tangible universe—a universe subject to consumption, alienation, and decay. Through their collaboration, [dNASAb] and De La Haba confront the ontological implications of artificial intelligence in art, where AI, with its capacity to learn and evolve, brings contemporary art into a new age.

In a time when AI is challenging the role of the human artist, AI: The Hybrid Future serves as a testament to the enduring value of the human touch and imagination, even as we stand on the brink of a new technological era that transforms both art and reality. This work was conceived specifically for the “AI: The Hybrid Future” exhibit, serving as a testament to the possibilities of AI’s role in expanding the boundaries of both digital and physical art.

“Artists are the vanguard of any social development and political system, and as such, with their foresight, they cannot remain silent, on the sidelines, against this phenomenon that drives humanity forward: “Artificial Intelligence”, which, in addition to inclusive development, fundamentally endangers the existence of the human being itself and other living things that populate the planet Earth, giving the possibility of the unknown with it “hybrid future”, for the re-creation in the beginning of a life, a dimension and a new existence.

This is to say and to witness through works of contemporary art, the likeness of our contemporaneity in which we live and the peace that awaits us in the unlived future.”

The Durrës Biennale is an institution that goes beyond a representation of what is currently happening in our time. It seeks to research the artistic work both in terms of semiotics and aesthetic-philosophical content, inviting the attention of the international contemporary art world every two years in Durrës, to give voice to the dynamics and discussions about any approach that reflects and challenges society’s expectations of visual art.
